What do a limerick, a drawer full of socks, a newspaper, a pile of library books and a bathroom mirror have in common? The answer is that they all have some fascinating, even beautiful, maths hidden within them.

This book is a hands-on demonstration of maths that anyone, even a complete maths-phobe, can actually enjoy.

Behind the scenes:

This book was partly inspired by a conversation with Erica Wagner, the literary editor of The Times, who wanted to know how it is that some people describe maths as 'beautiful' and 'creative'. Originally the book was to be entitled: 'Ah, Aha and Haha' but the feedback from booksellers was that with that title, nobody would understand what the book is about.

This book is aimed at a wider audience than my other maths books. While mathematicians will enjoy it, the target audience is adults who would not normally touch a book about maths. It’s suitable for teenagers and even a bright 10-year-old, too.
